Many people agree that Cornwall is at its best out-of-season. Great storms smash against the cliffs sending spume high into the wheeling seabirds. Thunderous surf rises to roll onto vast expanses of deserted beaches. Here is the really romantic face of the county, the wilder face that proved so inspirational to Daphne du Maurier, John Betjemen and Barbara Hepworth among many others. Shores House is a terrific bolt-hole and we have kept our out of season prices intentionally attractive so you can stay with just your nearest friends or even on your own for an extended weekend.

Spring arrives in Cornwall before anywhere else in the UK. You will find daffodils flowering in December, with Camellias and Magnolias hot on their heels. Then, all kinds of plants (more usually found in sub-tropical climes) burst into a riot of exotic colour. There is a greater concentration of world-class gardens in Cornwall than anywhere else in the world. Most of them peak in the first four months of the year. It is to Cornwall that the legendary 19th century plant-collectors finished their astonishing travels around the world and their legacy is amazing. You could visit a different Cornish garden every day for a month and still not have seen them all.

To make a week or simply an extended weekend in the springtime even more attractive, we have kept our prices very keen. Give us a little warning, and we’ll provide a chef to look after breakfast and dinner for you as well. We’d also be delighted to suggest the gardens that will be in full flower and assemble itineries for your visit.
